Writers and Artists

For writers, photographers and artists - inspiration on Top of the World!

You may be seeking a place to think and create. Seclusion, perhaps. Wild moorland away from it all yet with the comfort of a peaceful and cosy retreat that's yours for as long as you need it. Away from the mind-intrusions and distractions of urban life.

Stables-outside 2

The Stables at Jinlye nestles near the top of Shropshire's  Long Mynd and is perfect for writers, photographers and artists.

Owned by author Alistair Forrest and photographer Lynda Adlington, this timber chalet is surrounded by 6,000 acres of National Trust land. You'll feel on top of the world and find your inspiration in so many different ways.

It sits in the grounds of Jinlye, a former guest house near All Stretton, with easy access straight onto the wild expanse of the Mynd with its glorious flora and fauna.

From The Stables' balcony, you'll have stunning views across the South Shropshire hills while inside you can enjoy an open log fire plus everything you need to create in relaxed comfort. Undisturbed except by rare birdsong and the bleat of distant lambs, you can escape from life's pressures and revel in spectacular landscape.

You can cook for yourself or enjoy one of Lynda and Alistair's delightful vegetarian dishes. Discuss your work (and theirs) over a bottle of wine. Immerse yourself in their library with its emphasis on health, travel, gardening and historical fiction and non-fiction.

If you need supplies, the old English town of Church Stretton is two miles with its pubs, cafés, shops and restaurants. A local pub, the Yew Tree, is one mile down the hill in All Stretton, while other delightful country pubs ring the Long Mynd.
